Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil
  • 1 onion , finely chopped
  • 2 carrots , finely chopped or coarsely grated
  • 500g beef mince
  • 2 garlic cloves , finely grated or crushed
  • 2 tsp mixed dried herbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Marmite
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 200g frozen peas

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large, deep frying pan over a medium-low heat, and cook the onion and carrot for 10-12 mins until softened. Stir in the beef mince and cook for a further 6-8 mins until browned all over.

  2. Add the garlic and mixed dried herbs, stir well, then cook for a couple of minutes before stirring in the tomato purée, Worcestershire sauce and Marmite. Cook for a couple of minutes.

  3. Pour in the beef stock, then bring to a simmer and cook for 20-30 mins until the sauce has thickened. Scatter in the frozen peas and cook for 2-3 mins until the peas are tender.
