Sukhothai is tucked within the restaurant village at Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, alongside familiar names including Casa Mia and The Dubliner’s. Upon arrival, you’re warmly welcomed by the staff with a cheerful “Sawasdee ka” before being led to your table.
The venue’s interiors lean heavily into traditional Thai design, with rich teak wood panelling, intricate carved detailing and ornate golden accents throughout. Warm, low lighting gives the restaurant an intimate feel, while carved wooden pillars, Thai-inspired architectural details and gilded statues add a sense of grandeur. Deep red drapes and greenery soften the dark wood and bring pops of colour into the room.
Menu highlights
Once seated, we were welcomed with prawn crackers and a selection of condiments, which we enjoyed alongside a Thai iced tea and fresh coconut water. We started with the Tom Kha, a creamy coconut soup with chicken, mushrooms, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves and lime. The Som Tum, prepared tableside to suit our preferences like our spice level, was fresh and crunchy, with red chillies, green papaya, carrots, tomatoes and long beans brought together by a sweet-sour dressing.
For mains, the showstopping Pla Trod Sa-Mon Pai arrived as a whole fried hammour, generously topped with fragrant lemongrass, nuts, galangal and kaffir lime leaves and finished with a tamarind sauce. The fish was crisp on the outside while remaining tender inside.
Alongside it, the Gaeng Kiew Warn was a personal favourite for me. Served in a traditional hot pot that kept the Thai green curry warm throughout the meal, it was rich and comforting, with tender chicken, eggplant and sweet basil in a creamy coconut sauce. I loved being able to enjoy it hot from the first spoonful to the last.
The Phad Thai Goong was another colourful addition to the table, with prawns, egg, tofu, peanuts, bean sprouts and chives tossed through wok-fried rice noodles and a tamarind sauce.
To finish, we shared the mango sticky rice, pairing mango with coconut-infused sticky rice and coconut milk on the side.
